Fun in the Sun:
Free Summer Safety and Skin Cancer Awareness Event
(July 30, 2009)
Good Samaritan Hospital, in conjunction with Two Rivers Public Health Department, is offering a free summer safety and Skin Cancer Awareness Event featuring DermaScan skin evaluations.
The event is Thursday, July 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. on the first floor of Good Samaritan Hospital’s West Tower (located at Second Avenue and 32nd Street in Kearney).
One peek inside the DermaScan machine and participants will see the damage the sun has already done to their face. This damage may not indicate skin cancer, but will reveal areas to watch in the future. Prevention and early detection are key to reducing the risk of skin cancer.
At the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a free skin cancer risk assessment, learn more about skin cancer prevention and how to perform self skin inspections. Also, learn how to protect your family from insect bites, enjoy safe food practices for outdoor picnics, be water wise and reduce sun exposure.
Participants are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Center at 308-865-7985.
